What happens on the tutorial island?

It is Facepunch's new-player tutorial. You learn gathering, crafting, building and cooking on a private island. When you finish, you join the normal map and its rules. The server's rates and wipes stay the same.

Are tutorial servers a good place to start Rust?

They give you a safe first hour. After that you are on the main map with everyone else, so check group limit and rates if you want it easier. Many official servers keep the tutorial on, so you can see normal play early.

How often do tutorial servers wipe?

They follow the same wipe schedule as any server. Most wipe monthly, some weekly or every two weeks. A wipe resets the map, and blueprints only if the server chooses. Check the next wipe date on each server's page.

Can I team up after the tutorial?

Yes, once you reach the main map. The tutorial itself is solo. Look at the group limit on each row to pick a server that fits your group size. If you want to play together, choose one that allows it.
